Dozens of Beached Whales Shot CAPE TOWN, South Africa (May 31) - Authorities on Sunday began the grim task of removing the carcasses of 55 whales that beached themselves and had to be shot despite the frantic rescue efforts of hundreds of volunteers. Police had to put down 44 of the exhausted false killer whales to end their suffering, prompting scuffles with distraught locals desperate to save them. The rest died of stress and organ failure and the bodies of three whales who were initially thought to have escaped washed up overnight. 'And Then Came Death' Chad Chapman, Reuters5 photos A desperate attempt to save more than 50 beached whales on the South African coast ended in tragedy Saturday. After struggling to save the animals, many of whom were too stressed to survive in the open ocean, authorities decided to shoot and kill most of them. Here, the stranded false killer whales are seen on the beach at Kommetjie near Cape Town Saturday.(Note: Please disable your pop-up blocker) Ian Klopper of the National Sea ... |

Re: Seeking Puppy Playdate for my Maltipoo puppy! I know of the beach but i have yet to make it down there. I have been to the dog park in long beach and I wasn't too big of a fan. There is a strong stink of urine and no grass . It is off leash within the dog area and it is separated for small dogs. But i have had more of a pleasant experience at the dog park in Fullerton and in Orange. They both too have a separated section for small dogs. And they both have grass there. I know it's a drive for you (and for me) but I found it to be really good to socialize these little precious pups to different places and dogs.Let me know how the beach went. I wasn't too sure if i should take my little man there. Maybe if Minnie likes it, Buddy will too. I have made it a point to take Buddy to the dog park whenever I have time off, definitely on the weekends. If you don't mind the drive, try the dog parks. Keep in touch |

Dog day care, play group, dog walking, dog training with Dog City USA! Is your long workday preventing you from giving your dog the attention it deserves? Is it not getting enough exercise during the day, or acting disobedient? If so, I can help! My name is Walington and I work for a dog walking, training, pet sitting, day care. We pick up your dog in the early afternoon and take your dog out when you cannot fulfill his exercise needs. If your dog isn't getting enough exercise or attention, this is a major reason why some dogs are not obedient. So stop wasting your money on trainers!! We can do it all. We even specialize in "problem" dogs. We can care for your dog five days a week. A different park everyday of the week, and now that summer is almost here we will be going to the beach as well!!! So give your dog the "fun" it deserves and the exercise it needs. If your interested please call me at 347-482-3723... We will discuss about having an interview with you and your dog ASAP. No problems are too big or too small. Dog ... |

Laurel Canyon/Mulholland Dog Park The last two times I took my dogs to this park, a pit bull (not sure if it was the same pit both times) started a fight with some dogs there. It was very scary and my husband and I left immediately with our dogs. It's happened so frequently in the past year, that we have opted to not go back. Does anyone know if this is still happening there? And, does anyone have any experience with other dog parks in the area to refer us to which are little safer? |

Please SAVE "Sammy" staff favorite at Pasadena Shelter! Sammy is such a love!! I have spent several hours visiting with this dog and it just KILLS ME that I can't adopt him (3 dogs already). He is so sweet and serene. NO barking, nothing but love. SAmmy deserves to have a loving home. CAN YOU HELP HIM? ?Sammy? (A249929) is a 9 month-old neutered male brindle pit bull mix at the Pasadena Humane Society. He has been at the shelter since May 9th, and now he is in serious need of adoption or rescue. Sammy has been a favorite of the volunteers; they call him ?Velcro Dog? because he likes to walk right next to them when going around the park. He is very anxious to get out of the shelter, but once he hits the sidewalk, he is right next to you the whole time. Sammy went out with the mobile outreach unit, and was very good with the other dogs. He played appropriately and was very fond of people. Sammy has been used as a ?tester dog? for the behavior department as they evaluate other dogs. He is very well-behaved and has been invaluable as he is so ... |

Good Trainers in the Metrowest and Attleboro areas I can personally recommend the following trainers to help you with obedience training for your dog. 1) Masterpeace Dog Training in Franklin, MA - has basic obedience training plus advanced obedience work. Private lessons with Esther Zimmermann can help a lot, particularly if you are interested in competition obedience. She also does competition lessons at Masterpeace. Is positive reinforcement trainer only. h ttp://www.masterpeacedog.com/ 508-553-9300 2) K-9 Mastery in Seekonk - great people, great classes, lots of variety. Jen Burkhardt is unbelieveable as a trainer. Is mostly a positive reinforcement trainer. http://www.caninemastery.com/ 508-399-5867 3) Brigid Gore, Sit-Means-Sit dog training - if you don't have time for weekly lessons and prefer someone who will come to you (and you have the option of open ended weekly classes as needed), she's the one for you. Uses an electronic collar training method. If you use her, tell her I sent you. (email: brigidgore@sbcglobal.net) ... |
