Jack's Bio
Name -
When the shelter took me in, they called me "Journey", but when Dad and his family adopted me, they changed my name to Jack. I don't know why, but it's a good name and I like it. So Jack it is.
Out and About -
I'm just a big gentle giant. Mom says I'm a real sweetheart. I'm very happy to just sit by you as long as you keep petting me. I'm very loyal and will always protect the ones I love. Because of my size, I don't get to ride around to places with Mom and Dad a lot like my sister Wrangler does. But that's ok, I stay home and guard the house. I'm very happy to have a big fenced yard to run around in and to have Wrangler for company.
Family -
Well, the family situation is a little strange. My Dad was probably more like a brother when I first was adopted by the family, but now he's my Dad so we dubbed the rest of my family accordingly. Dad's wife is my new Mom. I live with them and the rest of the pets around here in a nice house with a big fenced backyard in a small rural town in central Arkansas. Mom works part-time so she has plenty of time to take care of me and the rest of us pet-kids around here. Dad is a soldier in the Army National Guard and is currently deployed - we all miss him very much right now and hope for his safe and speedy return. We're all really proud of Dad. My Grandpa and Grandma (Dad's side) live about 15 minutes away, and so do my Aunts and my dog-cousins. My Zeddi and Bubbi (grandparents on Mom's side) live about 45 minutes away. And then of course Mom and Dad have a lot of close friends who are just like family - some of them I even call my Aunts and Uncles too.
Training -
Mom and Dad plan on sending me to obedience school. Mom already talked to the trainer about entering in a beginner class later this month. First Mom says she needs to practice at home with me so I learn to listen to her better. Sometimes it's hard for Mom to handle me because I'm so big - I weigh just about as much as she does! Mom's training me to wear a halter to try to get me to stop pulling so much.
Food -
I'm on a raw diet - that means that I don't eat kibble, I eat real biologically appropriate raw meat, bones, and organs according to a prey-model. I officially went raw on December 27st, 2006 and I love it!
Pride -
I'm proud of my Mom and Dad for a lot of reasons - they do a lot of good things. In addition to being a soldier, Dad is a volunteer firefighter and first responder. He's in law enforcement too and works as a detention officer when he's not on active duty with the military. Mom has done a lot of volunteer work with animals all her life. She currently works at a stable taking care of horses, and she also volunteers there helping teach handicapped children how to ride. After hanging around the fire department with Dad for so long, Mom also joined and she's now a volunteer firefighter and first responder in training. One day I hope to earn my Canine Good Citizen award and do more volunteer work myself!

Arrival Story
Posted: Sunday 07 January 2007 06:03
I've been with Mom and Dad since December 26th, 2006
My Dad and his family adopted me from the local shelter during the ice storm of 2004. I had been picked up on the streets, abandoned and starving. When my Dad and my now-Mom started dating, Dad moved in with her into an apartment, and I had to stay with Grandma since I was too big for the apartment. Dad would still come back to visit cause they didn't live far, but I really missed him and wished I could live with him again. I first met Mom around then too, but didn't get to know her really well. She always seemed really nice and would pet me when she came over with Dad though. But, now that my Dad and my Mom have gotten married and bought a house, I came to live with them. Now my new Mom and I are really close, and I'm so glad that I got to come live with them!
