Riley's Bio
Name -
When I was at the shelter, my name was Toto. Now that I have a new start in life in a new home with a new family, I also needed a new name. Mommy and Daddy came up with several different ideas, but after playing with me and getting to know me, Mommy said that the name Riley fit me best. So Riley it is!
Out and About -
So far the weather here has been really icky and rainy, so Mommy hasn't gotten to take me out very often yet. I'm getting better about riding in the car though - I still don't like windsheild-wipers, but I'll be good now and tolerate them at least. I got to go to Petsmart and that was a lot of fun, although some of the strange men made me a little nervous. I like walking down the aisles and picking out my own toys hehe.
Family -
My new forever family is great! I live with my new Mommy in a nice house with a big fenced backyard in a small rural town in central Arkansas. I have a Daddy too but I haven't gotten to meet him in person yet. Daddy is a s0ldier in the Army National Guard and is currently deployed - everyone here misses him and hopes for his safe and speedy return. I hope he can come home soon so I can meet him! I've talked to him on the phone though! I haven't met the rest of my family yet, but I'm sure I will soon.
Training -
Mommy is doing her research about training me. So far she's introduced me to the little box that clicks and then I get a treat. I like that thing! Mommy is probably going to have me seen by a trainer too, but she's working on teaching me some manners and basic commands on her own for now.
Food -
My tummy has been all sorts of yucky since I came from the shelter. Mommy is trying to get my tummy settled and then plans on switching me to a raw diet. First I also have to learn my manners about food. I'm pretty good though already so it shouldn't be long before I can start eating the same yummy food as my brother and sister.
Being a "Bully" -
Mommy had always said that she'd never own a Pit Bull. She likes them just fine but had a bad experience with one several years ago. :( I'm just so sweet though that Mommy fell in love with me despite my Pit Bull blood. Mommy's being really careful and cautious though because she knows a dog like me is a lot of responsibility and will always require supervision around other dogs and other animals. She plans on having me be very well trained so that I can set a good example for my fellow "Bullies". Hopefully I can even get my Canine Good Citizen award!

Arrival Story
Posted: Tuesday 16 January 2007 23:28
I came to my forever home on - January 13th, 2007.
One day my Mommy was surfing the Dogster forums and came across a topic about some dogs in Houston that were going to be euthanized if we weren't rescued by Monday January 8th, 2007. Mommy felt so sorry for us and after staring at our pictures for so long, she decided she had to do something. So she contacted the shelter and see if they would adopt a dog out to her even though she lived in a different state. They said yes! And not only that, but they extended the deadline to Friday January 12th, 2007. So my Mommy got to work and found out that another Dogster member, Mia's Mommy would help us out with transporting me to Arkansas. So Mia's Mommy went to the shelter to meet me on that Friday. I was so sweet and playful that I totally won Mia's Mommy over, and she recommended me to my new Mommy. So Mia's Mommy filled out the adoption form and took me home with her for the night.
The next day, Mia's Mommy and Daddy took me for a drive. We drove from Houston to Tyler and that's where I met my new Mommy and my little sister Wrangler for the first time! I said goodbye to Mia's Mommy and Daddy and got in the car with my new Mommy and off we went. We drove from Tyler all the way to my new forever home in Arkansas. It was a long day of driving, but it was well worth it. I love my new family and home!
